Chocolate Covered Goodies

Food, everyone's favorite thing. You know what makes food better? Chocolate. Okay it only makes some food better. I'm almost positive I wouldn't want a piece of bread covered in chocolate, but my grandma always said don't knock it until you try it. I have a huge sweet tooth so the more sugar, the better! I decided to cover some of my favorite foods in almond bark chocolate. As you can see, I had to taste test the Almond bark, you know, just to make sure it was good.

Step 1
You will need to melt your chocolate. You can get fancy and use a double boiler. I know the name sounds intimidating but they are super simple to use. I don't personally own one. I went the old school way and used the microwave, with a heat proof bowl of course. I'd give you advice on the types of chocolate but there are all kinds of melting chocolate. There is even white chocolate and dark chocolate. Just keep in mind if you use chocolate chips, they don't contain enough cocoa butter to temper.

Tempered Chocolate means you'll have a nice glossy and firm coat. Untempered chocolate means it has a dully blotchy finish. If you are really interested in the difference, Click here to learn more!

Step 2
Wash any produce you have, like my strawberries. Do you know why we wash our produce? It helps remove any bacteria, which is something you don't want to consume.

Step 3
Lets start dippin! I started with my strawberries because I find them the easiest. Simple grab the strawberry by its stem and do a circular motion in the chocolate, until fully coated.

Next I went for the rice crispy treat, which was only $1! I used two fingers to hold onto the top  and swirled it around in the chocolate. I used a spoon to make sure it was coated from top to bottom, mostly.

Banana Time! Now I learned how to make a chocolate covered banana the hard way. I would 100% recommend using food grade popsicle sticks, like these ones found on amazon!  I placed my banana's in the bowl of chocolate and used my spoon to roll them around. A little difficult getting them out but as you can see, I made it! They make not look as pretty as the strawberries but they taste great!

I use to eat chocolate covered gummy bears all the time as a kid! Now unfortunately, my chocolate covered gummy bears didn't come out as planned. As you can see below, they are suppose to hold the gummy bear mold but mine looked like a blob. A little disappointing but one day I'll figure out how the pros do it. Not everything you make will be 100% perfect.

Step 4
The best step, grub time! Now some people like to place there chocolate in the fridge to set up a bit, to help create a harder shell. It doesn't take hours, more like 10 minutes. I found that the time between starting and ending, my chocolate had set up. Guess that could means I'm a slow poke OR as i see, I take my time.

Do not store your chocolate covered goodies in the refrigerator.  Your chocolate will become white and chalky, which doesn't taste as well. You want to store them in airtight container, in a cool place.

What I used
